Nawabshah serves as the District headquarters of the District of Shaheed Benazirabad in the province of Sindh. It is also the geographical center of Sindh. The city derives its name from Syed Nawab Shah, who donated 200 acres of land to the British Empire for a railway station in 1912. Honoring his gesture, the British government named the city Nawabshah. The town is also known for having a government college affiliated with the Mehran University of Engineering & Technology.
Demographics
Nawabshah spread over an area of 4,239 Square kilometers and is the 27th-largest city of Pakistan. It has four talukas and 51 union councils. It is a growing center of industrial industries because of producing refined sugars, small boats, silk, and cotton textiles.
Climate
Nawabshah is one of the regions in Pakistan escorted by blistering hot temperatures reaching above 50°C. While the city remains dry and warm throughout the season, the temperature sometimes falls to 0°C. The climate in winters is generally chilled but is short-lived from December to February. Nawabshah lies on a lush green agricultural region and produces mangoes, sugarcane, and cotton. The city is amongst the top banana producers in Pakistan.
Getting In
Reaching Nawabshah is a little timeconsuming by road. It takes almost four hours to get into the city from Karachi with a self-driven vehicle via the National Highway. The city is also a transportation hub to reach other towns of the province. Nawabshah Railway Station and railway connections offer connectivity with almost all cities in Pakistan. Depending on your preference and budget, you can choose between air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned trains to travel to the town. The Shaheed Benazirabad Airport has daily operating flights from Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. So, if you cannot waste time traveling by train or by road, taking air flight from one of the said cities can be the option.
Getting Around
You can go from one part to another part of Nawabshah by self-driven vehicles, rickshaws, and private taxis. Generally, people find traditional and motorcycled rickshaws to roam around the city because they tend to be a cheap medium of traveling. Exploring the city in summers may not be ideal due to its scorching hot weather, but if you happen to be there in summer, choose private air-conditioned taxis to ensure a comfortable ride throughout the city.
See
Nawabshah possesses a unique significance in the history of Talpur Empires. There you will see the tomb of Thul Mir Rukun. It lies 15 Kilometers away from the town of Daulatpur Taluka and is nowadays in the ownership of the Archeological Department of Sindh Government. This 18m high tomb has Sindhi bricks used in the construction. It also has the line painting inspired by the birth of Gotama Buddha.
